SKGAA Newsletter

A chairde,

What a wonderful weekend we had in Salthill with Ed Fest. I hope everybody enjoyed it and it didn't cause people too much inconvenience or stress. From our point of view, it went very well. The pitch is in good knick and will be treated over the next number of days and should be open soon. At this point, I must thank a few people for their incredible hard work going back about 6 months to accomodate this concert. There have been countless meetings over that time to ensure the club would protect itself and benefit from the hosting of concert. It was obvioulsy a huge inconvenience for club members, those using the Árus and of course there was a risk element involved, but thanks to the hard work of John Donuhue, John Daly, Alan Hasssett, Noel Schofield and James Molloy who organised all the logistics and attended all these meetings we believe it has been a worthwhile venture. It has by no means gone off perfectly but we believe it has gone off with great benefit to the club and above all a good template for the potential of future similar events so míle buíochas lads.

The games haven't stopped though. Ours U16 ladies are through to another county final, follwoing U14 Division 4 and then Division 3 finals, this superb crop are now on the cusp of Division 1 with a Division 2 final coming up. They are buoyed by their 2 county stars Emma Madden and Laura Kelly who collected a second Connacht Title in as many years with the Galway U16 Ladies Footballers. Senior Football Championship kicks off this weekend with our first group game vs Killannin in Moycullen on Saturday at 7pm so we would ask all members to get out and support Anthony, Maurice and the lads.

Information on all below.......

Congratulations to Árus Director John Daly who receieved a Moyoral Award in recognition of his great work in the community over the past number of years.

Adult Hurling

Minor Hurling:

SK Minor A Hurlers were defeated in the Championship by Castlegar on Saturday last at Carnmore Pitch.

A brave effort from these young men fell short against last years County Champions who fielded many of the same players from that winning team whereas SK were missing a number of key players on the day.

However, the Championship is not over and SK have 2 more matches to be played later in the Summer.

Ladies Football

County News - Well done to Emma Madden and Laura Kelly who both played a big part in Galway claiming the U16 Connacht title last weekend. It's a second Connacht Title in a row for the 2 girls having won the U14 Connacht and All Ireland title last year.

Junior/u18/u16 -  Chilly gusty weather did nothing to put off 29+ Girls/Juniors turn out for training on Wed 9th May in Endas. Virtually a full match was played for 45 mins with two equally matched teams. Ed-Sheeran fever was taking hold as the weekend loomed large ahead.

u16 - On the Sat, a short tactics session was held to outline match plan for League Div. 2 Semi-final against Caltra Cuans. The East Galway team were a bit reluctant to visit Cappagh Park as The Prairie was taken over for Ed-Mania! The match took place Sunday 13th at 10am in Cappagh. 19 Girls togged and SK came away with a fine victory finishing on a Score line of 6-19[37] to CC 5-3[18]. Referee was Kate Kilbane of Barna. All 19 Girls got a run and one very generous Mother agreed to wash the Jerseys… Many Thanks.

Next up is League Final planned for Sun 20/5/18. [TBC]. Opposition will be the winners of Moycullen V Tuam/Cortoon. This semi-final is to be played by Wed 16/5/18.
