Men’s team qualified for the Tonra Cup Final on the 22nd July by virtue of a dramatic penalty shootout win in Abbeytown today . In a tight tense first half , Killala keeper Danny Gallagher had to save a penalty to keep the lads in the game with. 0-0 scoreline at the break . We were forced to field without 11 of the squad so it was a great performance by the lads available to keep themselves in the game , a free kick early in the second half tho undid all the good work and Crossmolina were on the front foot . The heat was taking its toll but Killala began to come back into it in the final quarter hour after a number of tactical adjustments , then with 3 minutes remaining up stepped Kevin Whyte to hit an unstoppable free kick into the home sides net from 25 yards to breath life into his teammates. Extra time brought more stalemate and then the dreaded penalty shootout , DC , Kevin Whyte , Ryan Sweeney all scored , then Danny saved again , cue Tommie Loftus to stroke home the winning penalty and the boys are on the way to cup final , well done everyone today .
