Premier Intermediate Hurling

Mungret St. Pauls 0-19 Kildimo Pallaskenry 2-16

In Clarina on Saturday 10 August 2019, our Limerick Motor Centre sponsored Premier Intermediate hurling took on the top of the table team, Kildimo Pallaskenry. The rain stopped for the duration of the match but the wet weather had made the ground greasy. In this game where frees kept Mungret St. Pauls in it, they started the first half well and came out into the second half with a one point lead only to have Kildimo Pallaskenry play a stronger second half and take the win.

The opening point of the game went to Mungret St. Pauls but before the second minute was finished Kildimo Pallaskenry got a lucky break as they were awarded a penalty which they converted. Mungret St. Pauls did not let this get to them, it only took them another 5 minutes to level the game 4 points to Kildimo Pallaskenrys 1-1. Scores were coming in fast, 3 to Mungret St. Pauls, 2 to Kildimo Pallaskenry. There was a 2 minute break in play as our goalie needed attention and was subsequently substituted. Mungret St. Pauls scored the next point and then Kildimo Pallaskenry went 3 points unanswered taking the lead. Mungret St. Pauls kept the pressure on and Kildimo Pallaskenry wided the next 3 balls. The 2 sides shared the next 2 scored but Mungret St. Pauls finished out the half with 2 more points from frees in injury time.

For the second half, Mungret St. Pauls played with the slope, Kildimo Pallaskenry had the better start pointing half of their 6 chances in the first 10 minutes. Mungret St. Pauls only had one failed chance but there was a great goal save from our goalie. There were 2 quick points from play from both sides followed with a superb point from a sideline cut for us, this brought us to one point behind Kildimo Pallaskenry. This did not last long as a free for Kildimo Pallaskenry was sent toward the right of the goal, kept in by a Kildimo Pallaskenry hurley and onto another Kildimo Pallaskenry player who knocked it into the back of the Mungret St. Pauls net. 2 further frees pointed for Mungret St. Pauls soften the lead for Kildimo Pallaskenry, the next puck out was caught by Mungret St. Pauls and returned over the bar bringing Mungret St. Pauls to a point behind. Kildimo Pallaskenry pointed the next 3 points with time ticking away Mungret St. Pauls needed goals and when a close free was given Mungret St. Pauls needed to take the chance and go for a goal, this was denied but Mungret St. Pauls saw the chance and pointed 2 balls. The last minute of injury time had the action at the Mungret St. Pauls side of the pitch and Kildimo Pallaskenry struck their last point and taking the 3 point lead.

This is not the end for Mungret St. Pauls, they still sit in the forth place on the table with another 3 games to go. They need to put in 3 great performances to secure a place in the semi finals.
